Aswan, Egypt; Day 1

This morning we said goodbye to our beautiful rooftop view of the Pyramids and the Sphinx. We won’t miss the room but will definitely miss the astounding view and the evening light show.

After breakfast we headed for the airport and a short flight 550 miles to Aswan in southern Egypt.

This ancient city is located in the foothills of the Nile River and has been an important strategic city for Egypt. It is the location of the Aswan high dam which controls flooding on the Nile – a critical factor in Egypt’s economy. It was also the source of granite for ancient temples and tombs all over Egypt including the Pyramids at Giza – 2-15 ton stones were cut here and moved up the Nile for construction.

It’s a beautiful city right on the Nile and we’re looking forward to the Adventures it has in store.
