Travel to SE Asia Day 2

Sunrise at the airport

We started our travel yesterday driving to LAX from our home in San Clemente. Traffic in Southern California lives up to its reputation of being horrible and was further complicated by a steady and sometimes heavy rain. What we’d planned as a 90 minute trip quickly turned into 120 with the constant worry one fender bender would put us at a standstill. But we made it. We didn’t have to run for our flight, but we did spend a few minutes during the drive trying to figure out our contingency plan if we missed the plane.

There are no direct flights from LAX to Cambodia so our best option was to do a layover in Singapore before flying on to Siem Reap. We’ve completed our first leg. At 17:40 hours, it was the longest segment any of the Adventurers have flown. That is two meals, lots of combined hours trying to sleep, some reading and certainly some entertainment.

We arrived about an hour early and were happy to trade time on the plane with time in the airport. Singapore Changi Airport is recognized as one of the best airports in the world. It has free movies, a rain vortex, koi ponds, hedge mazes and all kinds of things to do. We did a couple of them but many are outside security and some took more energy/time than these travelers have. We definitely took it as an opportunity to get the kids back in the picture groove. They continue to be great sports about ‘grab a photo for the blog’.

The kids were super excited to continue their tour of international Lego stores – only to find this one closed. Not surprising at 430am but still goes down as the biggest disappointment of the day.

We’re boarding for our final destination…that’s all for now.
