The big day arrived!! After years of saving, months of planning, a global pandemic that still isn’t over, and 5000 miles in the car – we took our adventures international!
This was primarily a travel day. After a 6:15am wake up, sad little grab-and-go breakfast from the La Quinta, hotel shuttle, airport shuttle to the international terminal, short wait at check-in, longer wait at security, train ride to the concourse and a long walk to our plane – the 5 of us were ready to leave!

Four short hours later we landed in the northwest corner of Costa Rica in a province called Guanacaste. We were so excited to see a cloud-shrouded volcano from the window as we descended. We couldn’t wait to get off the plane and…stand in an immigration line for almost an hour. *sigh*

After showing the very kind agent our passports, health pass, return itinerary and proof of accommodations, we were done with airports for a while. We’ll be in the area for about 3 weeks – the first two in the city of Liberia. This city of just over 50,000 people is normally a bit of a pass through destination for tourists but it has lots to offer our Adventurers as you’ll read about in days to come.
Our first activity in Costa Rica was finding some food for our weary bunch. We happened upon a very tasty open air Peruvian seafood restaurant called Tierra Mar. The beer and lemonade were cold, the food was terrific and the atmosphere was a joy after the airports. The prices were closer to Cali $$ than we planned to indulge in very often – but we ate well and took home leftovers.
Tiffany (ad)ventured out to get some essential supplies to stock the AirBnB (Costa Rican coffee!!) but we mainly spent the afternoon settling in. Tonight we’ll close with a quick reminder that if you want to text or call, we’ve moved to WhatsApp – same numbers and emails.
I’m glad you’re adventure is going well! How very exciting for you all and for us to be cozy at home while we share with you. That wait at the airport was easy! 😊 Be safe and 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
