This is it. Our last full day in Amsterdam and in Europe! Plus it was the birthday of one of our Adventurers. So the post may be more abbreviated than usual because the birthday boy is watching World Cup soccer and finishing this post. We did exactly as Dad wished today which was to visitContinue reading “Amsterdam, Netherlands 2026; Day 3”

Amsterdam, Netherlands 2026; Day 2
This is our third set of Adventures in Amsterdam and we are developing a pattern. We repeat previous experiences we’ve enjoyed and add new ones as well. This morning started waking up in a hotel in our new neighborhood – near the Museum Quarter. You can gather from the name it’s close to Amsterdam’s mostContinue reading “Amsterdam, Netherlands 2026; Day 2”
Amsterdam, Netherlands 2026; Day 1
Today was the second day of our Lego Adventure. We started by heading to the roof of the Lego House which we had understood to contain a surprise or 2 for those intrepid enough to climb the stairs. On the roof, we found a submarine, a camel, an oversized brick, and swings. All of thatContinue reading “Amsterdam, Netherlands 2026; Day 1”
Billund, Denmark; Day 2
This is the birthplace, in 1932, of the toy company that eventually became LEGO and is still the current home of The LEGO Group’s global headquarters. For 10 years these bricks have been a happy presence in our kids lives. We have thousands of bricks from dozens of sets in our house right now andContinue reading “Billund, Denmark; Day 2”
Billund, Denmark; Day 1
Our 5 Adventurers sat around the breakfast table reviewing our wish list for the city of Stockholm. Our flight back to Denmark departed late in the day so we had an opportunity to revisit favorites or explore places that were left on the list. We have taken a few ferries in Stockholm and the kidsContinue reading “Billund, Denmark; Day 1”
Stockholm, Sweden; Day 3
Mid 60s and sunny might be our favorite weather for sightseeing and we woke up to that today. Yay! We are staying in Gamla Stan or Old Town and yesterday’s Adventures were there and on the nearby island of Djurgården. This morning we ventured into the City Centre. We wanted to balance Mom and Dad’sContinue reading “Stockholm, Sweden; Day 3”
Stockholm, Sweden; Day 2
At this points in a trip, some of the 5 Adventurers are more enthusiastic about morning tours after a day of travel than others. It was true this morning of Day 11 so 2 of us set off to visit the Royal Palace (Kungaliga Slottet). We noticed a number of people walking around the palaceContinue reading “Stockholm, Sweden; Day 2”
Stockholm, Sweden; Day 1
We could not possibly improve on yesterday’s experience in Bergen – so instead of trying, we left. This trip has more locations than most of our Adventures. We extended the duration as much as we could and are still only going to a few of the many places on our Scandinavian wish list. Our flightContinue reading “Stockholm, Sweden; Day 1”
Bergen, Norway; Day 2
As you may have guessed at this point, I, Suaram, will now be writing on the blog regularly. (And when I say regularly, I mean about once a trip.) All right. With introductions out of the way, it’s time to talk about the important part – our day in Bergen. This morning, we woke upContinue reading “Bergen, Norway; Day 2”
Bergen, Norway; Day 1
Our day began in Gudvangen where we enjoyed the hotel breakfast buffet which had relatively few weird Scandinavian food offerings. We did watch a woman pour liquid yogurt into her coffee but we couldn’t tell if it was an intentional act or a traveler’s mistake. In Gudvangen there is a Viking Village which is adjacentContinue reading “Bergen, Norway; Day 1”
Gudvangen, Norway; Day 1
The famous route from Oslo to the southwestern coast is known as ‘Norway in a Nutshell’. We started our own version of this today by taking the train from Oslo SentralStajion. The 4 hour journey winds through fjord valleys dotted with small towns. There’s also the occasional ski jump facility – very strange looking inContinue reading “Gudvangen, Norway; Day 1”
Oslo, Norway; Day 2
We were naturally delighted to be greeted by clear blue skies this morning as we left our charming flat in the Fredensborg neighborhood. The plan today was to prioritize the outdoor sites and visit the indoor museums if the sky opened up. The Vigelandsparken is a large park containing over 200 granite, bronze and wroughtContinue reading “Oslo, Norway; Day 2”
Oslo, Norway; Day 1
We spent last night on a ferry between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea – first on the Kattegat Strait and then the Skagerrak Strait. About 7am we made our way into the Oslo-fjord for the remaining three hours until we docked. This was our first – but not last – Norway fjord forContinue reading “Oslo, Norway; Day 1”
Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 3
This was our last day in the city as our overnight ferry to Oslo departed in the late afternoon. We had two items in our tourist checklist but had a lot of worries about the rain that greeted us in the morning. We have encountered a lot of cruise ship tourists during our visit here.Continue reading “Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 3”
Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 2
Our time in Copenhagen feels very short so we tried to jam several things in today. The long daylight hours make it easy. The sunrise is about 4:30am and sunset clocks out at 9:50pm with dusk a full hour later. We started with a quick breakfast at the local coffee shop (not at 4:30 –Continue reading “Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 2”
Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 1
As expected, our travels left us somewhat jet lagged and our Sunday started a bit late. Everyone felt pretty good We are staying in the Inner City of Copenhagen which gives us the advantage of being able to walk to a large number of interesting attractions and historic sites. The disadvantage is that the InnerContinue reading “Copenhagen, Denmark; Day 1”
Off to Scandinavia!
The kids had their last day of school on June 4th and we were all on a plane bound for Europe on the 5th. This year’s summer trip takes us through Scandinavia for most of the 18 days away from California. Our flight took us through Paris which provided Suaram an opportunity to exercise herContinue reading “Off to Scandinavia!”
