Union Pier, Michigan; Day 4

Today the Adventurers gave themselves a challenge – the ‘PentAquaPalooza’. This was a challenge to get in five different sources of water today. The last one was the easiest – a shower – so it was the first four that we set off in search of under sunny summer skies. Our first stop is anContinue reading “Union Pier, Michigan; Day 4”

New York, New York; Day 3

Yesterday was our downtown day. Today was our Central Park day and was another 8 miles of walking. We didn’t awaken at 4:30a as we had on Thursday morning but we were still up early as our European body clock timings dissipate slowly. We are staying a few blocks off of the park so weContinue reading “New York, New York; Day 3”

Amsterdam, Netherlands; Day 3

It’s been almost 6 months since we celebrated one of our Adventurer’s birthdays. Brian took his second turn today – he’s the only one to have two birthdays on this trip. His first was in Yosemite Valley. His big day started with homemade cards from the family. We’ve traveled the whole year with paper, coloredContinue reading “Amsterdam, Netherlands; Day 3”

Amsterdam, Netherlands; Day 2

There are 30 parks in Amsterdam and we visited many of them today. There are over 800k bicycles here too and we added 5 of our own to see those parks! We rented typical Dutch bikes and found them to be easy to procure, ride, and lock. The vast number of bicycle lanes and fellowContinue reading “Amsterdam, Netherlands; Day 2”

Paris, France; Day 6

We enjoyed our quiet Friday. We put a pause on most of the touristy stuff to do some normal life type things – Paris style of course. The first stop was the Laverie to get some clean clothes. Our apartment is quite small so it doesn’t come with a washing machine. A short walk solvedContinue reading “Paris, France; Day 6”

Paris, France; Day 4

Today’s big Adventure took us to the Musée du Louvre. The forecast called for rain and we got a little damp on the way to the Metro. This experience just reinforced our pleasure at the plan for the day which was to spend time inside an old palace with hundreds of fabulous pieces of art.Continue reading “Paris, France; Day 4”

San Gimignano, Italy; Day 4

Today’s Adventures took us on a short drive through the picturesque Tuscan countryside to the town of Volterra. A walled city dating from the 8th Century BC, it featured narrow streets, charming outdoor eateries and a couple of playgrounds for the kids. We wandered the 2800 year old streets to check out the ancient architectureContinue reading “San Gimignano, Italy; Day 4”

Rota, Spain; Day 20

We enjoyed the afternoon at the park and then Brian cooked a chicken dinner for these Adventurers. The kids enjoyed their time at this park which sits only three blocks away from the apartment. If the zip-line cable wasn’t damaged then it might even be better than the park they found at Chipiona on Friday.Continue reading “Rota, Spain; Day 20”

Rota, Spain; Day 16

We spent most of the day in another coastal town in the Western Andulisia part of Spain called Chipiona. It lies about 10 km (6 miles) north of Rota. Our destination was the lighthouse which is the tallest in Spain. We were geared up to climb the 350 spiraling stairs. Before we got there theContinue reading “Rota, Spain; Day 16”

Lisbon, Portugal; Day 2

This is our first day in a European capital during our World Tour and it is beautiful here. Admittedly we did little research on Lisbon prior to arriving since we added it last minute – so we had limited expectations. What we have found so far is a medium-sized port city with a vibrant caféContinue reading “Lisbon, Portugal; Day 2”

Cincinnati, Ohio; Day 3

Today the Adventurers took things on the road including school. We went on a field trip to a unique Cincinnati museum but made a few stops first. Our first stop was to a Cincinnati institution Suders Art Store. It’s been around since 1924 and in its current location for 90 years. Suaram’s eyes popped atContinue reading “Cincinnati, Ohio; Day 3”

Leesburg, Ohio; Day 21

Today is predicted to be the last good weather for a while so we took advantage at the local Leesburg playground. The kids had fun exploring all the equipment but demonstrated they are getting close to aging out of parks like these. On the spring riders they almost touched the ground and had knees practicallyContinue reading “Leesburg, Ohio; Day 21”

Leesburg, Ohio; Day 17

Today started cold, in the twenties, but quickly warmed to a sunny sixties kind of day. We took advantage of the weather and headed to a very neat park nearby in Wilmington, Ohio. It had all the things the kids like. A picturesque setting, lots of playground equipment, and a music studio. This park evenContinue reading “Leesburg, Ohio; Day 17”
